Tattoos

I felt inspired today to take pictures of my tattoos. I've had questions before either on here or my Flickr about them/wanting to see them, so here you go!

All tattoos were done at Liberty Tattoos in Libertyville, IL. All were done by Dave, minus the liver cancer ribbon which was done by Seth.

If you guys have any questions that I didn't address in this post, please let me know!

#1. Poochie with a butterfly. This was the first tattoo I got for my 18th birthday. My dad had died two years earlier and I wanted to get my first tattoo about him. Ever since the day I was born he called me Poochie. Very rarely did he call me Alexa or Alex as my family calls me. Since he died, I really don't think I've been referred to as that, so I wanted to get Poochie to remind me of him. I got the butterfly just for what they mean with transformation and rebirth. This is on my left inner wrist.

#2/5. Rose, Narcissus & Aster. The rose came first of the three. I got a rose simply because my middle name is Rose and they've always been my favorite flower. I love how beautiful they are and the scent of them is quite possibly the best smell in the world! The Narcissus and Aster flowers came a few years after the Rose. The Narcissus is the birth flower for December, my dad's birth month and the Aster is the first flower for my mom's, September. I do plan on getting this added on to again for my birthday this year in March.

#3. 12.2.43 Liver Cancer Ribbon. This one is on my inner right wrist. Simple enough, my dad's birthday was December 2, 1943 and he died of liver cancer. A yellow ribbon not only stands for "support our troops" but plenty of other causes including liver cancer and disease.

#4. Beatrice the owl. Okay I'll admit it, I have a serious obsession with owls (and flowers). Especially vintage/cartoon owls. I had been itching to get a new tattoo one summer and decided to just go for it. I collect anything with owls on them, why not a tattoo? ;) I brought in a few pictures of owls that I found online to Dave and he mixed together different parts of each one that I loved and drew this up. She's obviously a very girly girl like me, look at the flower in her hair! I named her Beatrice, Bea for short.

So while browsing the aisles at Ulta a while back, this new brand called Pixel drew me in. All the cute bottles and colors... and the price was right. How could I go wrong? Ugh, I did. Don't get suckered in you guys! I swatched these when I got home and they immediately went into my "give away" drawer. The two colors I got were super sheer and nothing special, (not to mention the names are annoying as hell). Buy at your own risk!

You can find the brand "Love & Beauty" at Forever21 stores. The quality is surprisingly good considering how cheap they are! The only bad thing is having to dig through the giant bins they have of these to find the best colors.

I wanted to post this early in case I don't get a chance to on Christmas day. I know I've been absent these past few months (work, personal stuff..etc) but I want you all to know how much I still appreciate you all following me!

I hope everyone has a great Christmas (or whatever holiday it is you celebrate) and get everything you wish for this year. This year has been a crazy one for me and I'm just so grateful for my friends and family. I love them all so much and hope everyone reading this has people that special to them as well. MAC - Immortal Gold

Hi guys! I have just a quick post for you all today - a swatch and comparison of the latest MAC nail polish from the "Posh Paradise" collection called Immortal Gold. I also compared it to Chanel - Peridot as I've heard a couple people at work saying it was similar and honestly, that's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it as well.

I really do love this. I've found the quality of MAC polish has changed in the past year or two... I had it on for 4 days before I ended up having to take it off because I ripped my nail really low and had to patch it. I then trimmed them all down because I can't function at work with really long nails (that's how I ripped it in the first place).

Here's my comparison of it with Peridot.


Left to right - Immortal Gold, Peridot, Immortal Gold, Peridot

As you can see, they're similar but not identical. Immortal Gold is just more of a very green gold without the duochrome flash that Peridot has. Peridot has also more of a foil-y finish than Immortal Gold does.

Just a quick update... today is my last day of work before my vacation starts!! Heck yes.. VEGAS! This also means that I'll have some days before I go to swatch polishes and edit them. I'm planning on scheduling posts for you guys while I'm away so you can have a daily fix ;)

Who wants to hear what I have planned for the rest of my week before I fly out Monday morning? Lisa and I have to go clutch and shoe shopping for a wedding on Saturday. I'm getting a Shellac manicure on Thursday, this is what I usually do when I go away as it seems to help a little bit. And then Friday I'm getting a pedicure..it's gonna be a week of nail polish!

The wedding I mentioned earlier? I'm not only going but I'm also doing the makeup! Eek! So I've been busy preparing for that and finding the perfect dress (Does anyone wanna see it??? Huh? Anyone?) Sunday? I have to spend the entire day packing. Lord. Have I mentioned how much I hate packing?

I'm sure by now most of you have heard of "HARE" nail polishes. They're custom made nail polishes by Nikole from NailingIt on Tumblr. I started following her blog months before she started selling these colors because of how beautiful her swatches/nails are!

Let me just say, she knows how to mix her own colors! I was lucky enough to purchase 3 of the colors that she's been selling on her Etsy shop HAREpolish. She only lists the colors every once in a while so if you're interested in these, keep checking NailingIt to see when bottles will be up for purchase!

Overall, these colors were just perfect! When I applied the first coat, I was worried they'd be too sheer...but as you can see, by the second, they were perfect! Good job Nikole...you have all of us bloggers addicted even more now! ;)

Oh my gosh you guys - I don't know when it happened but I seemed to have passed 1000 followers. Thank you all SO much! I know I don't blog as often as I used to... I still like to blame work for that. I'm required to only wear certain colors when I'm working and it makes it more difficult to test all my other shades.

!!!! I'll be back to blogging soon! I miss all my blogging friends.. I miss all my readers. I'll be back once I'm back from my Florida vacation with a butt-load of swatch pictures for you.

I do want an opinion though. I sometimes feel like I don't know how to really describe a polish as well as some of my fellow bloggers. Would you guys be ok if I just posted the swatch picture with little commentary? I think that's what kept me from posting too much before. I put too much thought into what was being posted. Christmas Nail Art

I just wanted to post a quick review on some Christmas themed nail tattoos I got sent from BornPrettyStore.com. Not only did they send me these awesome nail tattoos, but they also sent me some other fun nail art items that I'll be reviewing at a later time. I just wanted to get this one up before the holidays were over ;)

Up first is the 11pcs Christmas Santa Theme Nails & Tattoos Sticker

These are a little different than most nail art stickers you can find in the stores in the states - these are actually nail tattoos. Applying these is pretty simply once you get the hang of it. I had followed the directions on the back and got a little frustrated at first because it wasn't working.. I didn't realize you had to almost peel the tattoo off the paper and then stick the peeled off tattoo onto your nail. Oops.

You just have to cut out the design you want, let it sit in water for 10-20 seconds, get it out of the water and then I used tweezers to peel it off of the paper. Then the design easily sticks to your nail, pay it dry with a tissue and then apply a top coat. Simple, right? I find these nicer than nail stickers because you don't have the annoying edges sticking up that don't want to stay on your nail.

For now they only have Christmas and Halloween themed nail tattoos up but hopefully they'll add more soon! These retail for $4.31 and you get sent a lot as you can see in the picture above.

They ship from Hong Kong but it only took about a week for the items to get to me once I was told they were sent so that's pretty good.

Ready to see the manicure I did with these? I went a little Christmas happy.. (btw, some of these are on my rarely seen left hand. Oooh!)

I should have reviews of the other products they sent me, (including the crackle polish other bloggers have been talking about) so check back soon for that! I also think they're going to offer a coupon code to my readers so as soon as I hear more about that I'll post it :)

Liquid Palisade - Review & Pics

Are you all ready for an exciting and new product that makes it super easy to not only do the perfect manicure with no clean-up afterwards, but also to create the perfect french manicure and awesome nail art? (phew!)

Introducing.. Liquid Palisade!

A paint-on temporary barrier that protects against unwanted polish mishaps! (No, it's not polish!!) You'll simply peel it off (like a stretchy string) for the perfect custom manicure or pedicure every time. By painting on liquid palisade wherever you DON'T want polish (ie: on your cuticle). You'll end up with polish where you WANT it, NOT where you don't!

Sounds pretty cool, right?? It's basically a liquid that dries to an almost rubber-like consistency that you paint on anywhere you don't want your polish to be, let it dry and then use a cuticle pusher (or your nail) to shape the product. Then you paint on your nail polish color, wait until it's ALMOST dry and then peel off the product!

Liquid Palisade is available exclusively at http://www.liquidpalisade.com/ and retails for $22 in a .35oz tube similar to a lipgloss container.

Here are a couple tips that the creator, Jacqueline, shared with me:

Shake liquid palisade before use
Let liquid palisade dry before tweaking it or polishing
Peel liquid palisade off after your polish half-way dry (Don't wait 'till your polish is dry, doesn't work as well!)
If you didn't get the liquid palisade on the way you wanted, peel it off and start over!! It's easy!!
Make sure you use enough extra palisade to make a "tab" to pull it off (like for a frenchie, make sure you paint the palisade over your cuticles some on each side so it's easier to pull off!!)
Make sure your cuticles are as free from dry flaky skin as possible!!

And here are some tips, copied from the website:

Shake your liquid palisade very well before and during use!
Apply a thin coat of liquid palisade vs. a thicker coat.
Let liquid palisade dry completely before tweaking or polishing.
Peel liquid palisade off BEFORE your polish is dry.
Gently tweak liquid palisade with a manicure stick or your finger for the perfect edge.
If the liquid palisade application doesn't look right, peel it off and try again!
For nail art, wait until your base coat of polish is dry before applying liquid palisade.
Apply liquid palisade to all nails BEFORE starting to polish.

Alright, now are you ready for some pics?

Here, I've started by painting the Liquid Palisade along my cuticle

Wait for it to start drying - it gets darker in color.. and push back the LP

Paint on your nail polish like you normally would - touching the LP

Once the polish starts drying - use the tab you created and peel off the LP

TADA! A perfect manicure with no extra clean-up needed.

French manicure time - Again, apply the LP where you want your french to be

Wait for the color to get darker, push it into shape and then paint the polish on

Peel off the LP..Yay! An awesome funky french :)

Now for some nail art. Apply the LP.. typically you would do this over a color that's already dry

Making sure to leave tabs - let the LP dry and apply your nail color

And, peel off!

If you couldn't tell, I really love this product! It's a great idea. The only issue I've had is the product getting a little gunked up in the stopper and having to pull it out of there every other use. Like mentioned above, definitely be sure to shake the bottle really well before-hand or else the product gets kind of liquidy.

I think this is a pretty awesome product, especially if you have problems with steadiness of the hands. Sometimes the typical brush clean-up most bloggers do doesn't work well if you're shaky.. this will make it pretty easy on you :).

I'm gonna end this post with the warnings included with the product just to be safe.

To clear up some confusion about my name

Hi guys.. I've noticed that recently there's been some confusion about where the origins of my nickname "lextard" came from. As you most should know, my name is Alexa.. people have called me Alex and Lex my entire life.

Insert my friend, Addy. We were online one night years ago and I was sending her pictures of me from dance class.. We were joking about the god-awful leotards and outfits I had to wear for the recitals. After that, she started calling me "lextard" as a play on the word "leotard".

It really bothers me that people would think my name means anything else.. and if you got the chance to know me, it really wouldn't cross your mind in the first place. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone with my nickname but I don't plan on changing it.. I answer to this name in real life as well as online lol. It's a part of me.

And now..just to cheer everyone up a little, here are the pictures I talked about earlier!

Sounds nice, right? I decided to go ahead and try this because that basically sums up what I've been looking for to add to my skincare routine. I have sensitive skin that's oily in the t-zone, dry everywhere else and am very prone to breakouts.

First thing I noticed about this is the smell - ugh it's so beautiful and calming!! You can definitely smell the lavender in it, which is a bonus for me as lavender is one of my favorite scents. This comes in a pump bottle which is my favorite way for moisturizers to be packaged. It's much more sanitary than a jar and easier to get a precise amount out of than a squeeze tube.

The texture of this is really nice and lightweight and you can almost feel it balancing the oil on your face as you massage it in. Weird, right..but also pretty cool. I also have an issue with most moisturizers turning my face bright red after applying and I didn't have that problem with this one at all. Anyways, you all know I have a weakness for this type of color and this one is no different. I always love these Barielle Shades colors.. I think I'm gonna look into more of these.

This just recently came out with the first holiday release, "A Tartan Tale." I like the base color of this..I just wish the copper glitter showed through better. Similar to Barielle Shades - Falling Star. Also, please ignore how thin and ridgey my nails are. They've been super weak since my surgery :(

Random Post: Foot Surgery

Hey guys! I'm only on my first day home from surgery and I'm already bored out of my mind! (Ps, sorry if this is a bit random. I'm on Vicodin ;[)

Everything went fine! I got my special bunion (Also known as a "Tailor's Bunion") removed.. they had to cut the bone on the side of my foot and push it back in and then set it with a screw. FUN! I also had an extra bone growing under my big toe and I guess the Dr. told my mom that the extra bone was the size of a piece of corn and couldn't believe how much pain it must have been causing me. Now.. I love me some corn. I'm even considering a corn tattoo.. but how do I always end up with this random crap?

side note: Growing up I had two baby teeth that were connected together at a root.. the dentist ended up having to pull that. Then, when that tooth grew back in, it decided to come back with TWO teeth. One in it's normal spot and another tooth right in front of it. So.. I've had an extra tooth..and extra bone. What's next?!

ANYWAYS!! Everything's going good. They seriously had to numb my foot and it's STILL numb which is freaking me out. It's all wrapped up in the dressings and I won't have that changed until Thursday.

When I woke up after surgery I was FREEZING! I asked the nurse to get me another blanket and he told me I was at my limit (6) :( lol. Then..he got this spiffy hose thing that shot hot air out of it and put that in my pile of blankets. YAY! Nice and toasty.

Then I was wheeled to another recovery room to change into my clothes and they offered me juice, pop or coffee. I don't drink pop, juice makes me sick..so naturally I jumped at the coffee. She got me that and what else? GRAHAM CRACKERS!! HECK YES! I was so excited.

So yes..I ate my crackers, drank my coffee and then got to go home :) The nurses kept saying what a good hopper I am ;). I made my bro and mom stop at McDonald's on the way home and I got me a Happy Meal. It came in this awesome trick or treat bucket with Mr. Potato Head on it. And then the lid had stickers on the other side so I was able to decorate them. Score!

I took a nap in bed earlier today and woke up to pain. Not foot pain..oh no. But.. cramps. Seriously? Did I also mention that I've been blowing my nose and sneezing non stop since I left the hospital? This is gonna be a fun week you guys! ;)

My best buddy Lisa is stopping by tomorrow and is gonna bring me lunch so I'm really looking forward to that. Right now I'm just sitting on the couch, watching DWTS, and cuddling with my boy Cody and my stuffed animals of Flounder and Piglet that my mom bought me on Saturday during our trip to the Disney store. <33

Better late than never, right?? I had these taken a while ago but couldn't post them until after the collection launched!

I have for you guys two of the three polishes that launched with the new Alice + Olivia collection from MAC. The only one missing is a matte charcoal called "Military." Mattes aren't my favorite finished so I passed on that one :)

I will say that I've worn both of these as a full manicure more than once.. that says a lot about these colors. I don't generally wear colors more than one time so they must be pretty special ;)

A raspberry base with pink and darker pink glitter. Looks great with just two coats.. no need to layer this over another color for full opacity. But I can definitely imagine it over other colors.. like maybe a silver?

My favorite of this collection!! Like Ruby Red Slippers, but blue. This one has a deep blue base similar to Rehab but with some added deep blue and silver glitter plus silver hex glitter.

I ended up buying this collection, Back To Basics and another called Dream from an eBay seller named tbsnails. Unfortunately I'm not seeing either of these collections in their store anymore.. but it's definitely worth messages them to see if they have any left?

This collection is, as the name suggests, your basic colors. All are a creme formula. I'm so happy I took the plunge and bought these.. I'm so impressed with their formula.
